New York, NY – In a significant collaborative effort organized by the New York City Wetlands Volunteer Associate under the Environment and Planning, Stewardship department NYC, the Youth Civil Service participated in a citywide volunteer event at Joe Michaels Mile. This effort involved planting 4,150 plugs collectively, contributing to the restoration and enhancement of the local saltwater marshes.
The event underscores the importance of saltwater marshes within the urban ecosystem of New York City. These wetlands play a crucial role in improving water quality, providing storm surge protection, and supporting diverse wildlife habitats. Such ecological benefits are vital for maintaining the city's environmental health and resilience against climate impacts.
The participation of Youth Civil Service in this event highlights the organization's dedication to fostering a sense of environmental responsibility and active involvement among young people. By participating in these hands-on conservation activities, the young volunteers gain invaluable experience and education on the importance of ecological preservation and management.

Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication and effort. Your contributions have made a lasting impact on the health of New York City's wetlands and waterways, demonstrating the essential role that community engagement plays in environmental conservation.
